For Japan, thinking about these

For Japan, purchased / tried these out

  • SwitchBot プラグミニ スマートプラグ amazon.co.jp
  • +Style ORIGINAL スマートプラグ amazon.co.jp
    • summary: offers functionality like remote on/off and consumption measurement only over the vendors cloud/mobile app. No APIs for automated reading available.
    • portscan: TCP/6668 open
    • model PS-P0P-W01/1P
    • functions direct API: no direct API
    • sniffing traffic, TLS1.2 encrypted connections to AWS are seen
  • ゴウサンド/Gosund WP6-1
    • summary: offers functionality like remote on/off and consumption measurement only over the vendors cloud/mobile app. No APIs for automated reading available.
    • model name: gosund smart plug
    • portscan: TCP/6668 open
    • functions app: on/off, timer, electrical consumption
    • ESPhome firmware supports the US version of the WP6.. no note about JP version.
    • I suspected this to be a Tuya device, but when I reset the plug and try to set it up with the Tuya app, it's not found. I had run through setup issues with tuyapi details, before concluding it's not Tuya compatible. tuya-convert is possible with Tuya devices.

For Germany, thinking about these

For Germany, purchased/tried out these

  • Shelly Plug S
    • summary: Of all the smart plugs I tried, I like the Shelly most! Unfortunately, nothing for Japanese market.. just owning it for German connectors.
    • functions app: on/off, timer, electrical consumption
    • functions direct API: on/off, temperature, power consumption
    • Alternative firmware:
  • Inline Smart Home Steckdose
    • The app to setup the plug looks much like the Tuya app, but the Tuya app does not detect the plug.
    • functions app: on/off, timer, electrical consumption
    • no direct API, might work via IFTTT (but interconnecting that is so complicated that I've given up on it)
